Since 2018, Manuel Clavel is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the Vietnamese-German University in Vietnam.
Previously, he occupied, among others the following academic and management positions: Associate Research Professor at the IMDEA Software Institute (Spain, 2009-2013), where he was the leader of the Modeling Group; Associate Professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain, 2011-2013); Vicedean of Academic Planning at the Faculty of Computer Science of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain, 2002-2006)); and Deputy Director of the IMDEA Software Institute (Spain, 2008-2011).
During his doctoral studies, he was an International Fellow at the Computer Science Laboratory of SRI International (US, 1994-1997) and a Visiting Scholar at the Computer Science Department of Stanford University (US, 1995-1997). His Ph.D dissertation was published by the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University (US). Since then, he has published over 45 refereed scientific papers. He has supervised 3 doctoral dissertations (all completed). Field expertise:
Prof. Clavel's research focuses on rigorous, tool-supported model-driven software development, including: modeling languages, model transformation, model quality assurance, and code-generation. Related interests include specification languages, automated deduction, and theorem proving. He was also co-leader of the ActionGUI development team. ActionGUI is a model-driven technology for developing secure data-management applications. ActionGUI was jointly developed by IMDEA Software and ETH Zurich (Switzerland). Finally, he was partner and co-founder of Meaningful Models, a start-up company on model-driven security.

- Distinguished Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, since August 2016, at undergraduate level. Courses on software engineering and cloud computing. Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain, from November 2001 to August 2013, both at undergraduate and Masters level. Courses on programming languages, logic, and software engineering.
- Gastprofessur in the Institute for Information Security, ETH Zurich, from August 2012 to February 2013. a Master-level course on security engineering (co-teaching).
- Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Universidad de Navarra, Navarre, Spain, between January 1998 and November 2001 at undergraduate level. Courses on logic, anthropology, ethics, and philosophy of science.
